Lilian Coral is Vice President of Technology & Democracy Programs at New America, where she leads five programs and initiatives spanning AI governance, public interest technology, digital rights, and democratic resilience. A nationally recognized leader at the intersection of technology and public policy, she spearheads initiatives including RethinkAI and the Shangri-La Series on AI governance for middle powers.
Lilian serves on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the board of Next City. She also teaches graduate-level public policy at the University of Southern California. Her earlier leadership includes serving as Chief Data Officer under Mayor Eric Garcetti, where she built the groundbreaking GeoHub geospatial platform, and Director of National Strategy and Technology Innovation at Knight Foundation, where she managed a $13 million annual portfolio across eight communities.
A Colombian-born civic technologist, Lilian holds an MPP from UCLA and a BA from UC Irvine.
